I was excited, I was rehearsed, and I was raring to go. This was my first live in person talk in nearly two years of Mr Pandemic reeking carnage. It was in the prestigious Mansion House in Central London to celebrate Prostate Cancer UK’s 25^th birthday. It is the majestic official residence of the Mayor of London and we don’t talk about the ingenious way the building was funded way back in 1739.

Invited were the leaders and staff of Prostate Cancer UK along with their biggest clients and supporters. Prostate Cancer UK have hundreds of volunteers and yet they asked me to do this talk. 86. Building Bridges

Bridge Pops has been in hospital for a couple of weeks. He was having some pains in his shoulder, so they operated on him.

While they fixed the problem with his shoulder, they also discovered that he had a blood clot in his bowel. The clot could dislodge itself or get worse. Now, because he also has an internal bleed somewhere they cannot give him blood thinners. Currently they are giving him a pint of blood a day.

His list of ailments would make a couple of good episodes of ‘Gray’s Anatomy’….

Fat Man

There are a number of key ingredients to a successful long distance run. The correct training is one, running attire, running shoes, being able to see your shoes over your belly is another. Highly underrated however is placement. Just like you don’t put the sweet aisle where the fat dudes cannot see them or open a fried chicken shop next to a gym. Successful running is about placement, placement and more placement.

Mad sick surgeon

COVID -19 continues its relentless march across the UK. We are now looking at another round of restrictions but at least not another total lockdown. That said there has not yet been the fighting for toilet paper but it has now lead to a bit of panic buying in some shops.

I had seen in the news how charities have been particularly hard hit with the drop in donations and sponsored events. A few weeks ago I got an email from Prostate Cancer UK about how they have suffered as a charity with a massive drop in donations. As a result they were letting a number of people go, some that I had personally worked with. That was a really sad day.

I also continue to be told about guys that have been newly diagnosed at various stages in the cancer. Additionally, across all cancers, almost weekly there is another story about someone that has suffered because of a late diagnosis or delayed treatment due to COVID.

There was one thing that my smile was my daughter telling me how a boy in her class was boasting to his friends how his mother had lost her sense of taste and smell. The teachers eventually got wind of it and he wont be seen again for two weeks. I’m sure he wont be the apple of his mothers eye at the moment.

With all that in mind it would almost seem like a pleasure to go back in time, pre COVID, and talk about prostate cancer treatment.Read More »
